What Is a Dual Extract? Why Hot Water + Alcohol Matters

A dual extract is a mushroom preparation that combines two different extraction methods—hot water and alcohol—to create a more complete supplement. This approach captures a broader range of beneficial compounds than either method alone.

How Dual Extraction Works

Mushrooms contain two main types of beneficial compounds: polysaccharides (which dissolve in hot water) and beta-glucans and other constituents (which dissolve better in alcohol). By using both extraction methods, you get a product that captures compounds from across the mushroom's profile.

The process typically involves steeping mushrooms in hot water first to extract water-soluble compounds, then using alcohol to pull out alcohol-soluble ones. The two extracts are then combined into a single product.

Why Hot Water + Alcohol Matters

Hot water extraction breaks down the mushroom's cell walls and releases polysaccharides—compounds your body can readily use. This is why traditional mushroom broths and teas have been valued for centuries.

Alcohol extraction accesses different beneficial compounds that water alone cannot reach. Alcohol acts as a solvent for compounds that are insoluble or poorly soluble in water, giving you access to a different part of the mushroom's nutritional spectrum.

Together, they create a more comprehensive extract. You're not just getting one type of compound—you're getting a fuller representation of what the mushroom has to offer.

Advantages of Dual Extracts

  • Broader compound profile than single-extract products
  • Designed to work with your body's natural absorption pathways
  • No fillers or grain additives needed to boost potency
  • A more complete way to experience mushroom benefits

If you're looking for a supplement that gives you the full spectrum of what mushrooms can deliver, a dual extract is a practical choice backed by extraction science.
